Perplexity · research and answer product

Perplexity

Official documentation

Perplexity is a starting point for a question that needs current web evidence and citations the reader can inspect. Search and deeper research can bring several sources into an answer; file analysis and model selection depend on the plan. Its current plan documentation uses Projects; older official material uses Spaces. That wording does not establish a migration of every old Space. The suite also includes file and app creation, Computer and the separate Comet Assistant browser surface, with access varying by tier. Choose the surface by the work required rather than treating them as interchangeable. A citation is a route back to evidence, not proof that a claim follows from it. Consumer subscriptions and the API platform have separate entitlements.

When it fits

Useful for

  • Finding current evidence and comparing competing public claims
  • Returning a source-linked research answer with unresolved contradictions visible

Limits to consider

  • Accepting a generated claim solely because it has a citation
  • Assuming consumer Pro or Max includes a separate API allowance

Capabilities and platforms

  • Search and deeper research synthesize web material with source links
  • Projects organize recurring material, with file analysis depending on access
  • Plan-dependent creation and Computer features extend the suite beyond answers; Comet Assistant is a separate browser surface

Where it runs

  • Web
  • Comet browser/Assistant surface; access varies

Access and setup

An eligible product account for the chosen tier; API access is separately entitled. Do not build a new setup around the organization file repository marked for retirement October 1, 2026.

Current access and pricing
  1. Open Perplexity and check which research features the account plan includes.
  2. Specify the decision, date range, geography and source standard; use a Project when recurring material belongs together.
  3. Ask for direct evidence, competing explanations and unanswered questions, then open the citations that determine the conclusion.

Proposed exercise · not hands-on tested

Compare competing release claims

Input

Two conflicting public claims and a precise cutoff date.

  1. Ask for the primary announcement and documentation behind each claim.
  2. Request a comparison that separates shipped features, stated plans and contradictions.
  3. Open the decisive pages and correct the comparison where cited evidence does not support the generated statement.

Artifact to inspect

A dated research answer with primary links and unresolved points.

What to verify

Confirm publication dates, actual wording and claim scope; retain contradictions rather than choosing the more confident answer.

Data handling and permissions

Consumer paid plans document a training opt-out, while Enterprise and API protections differ. Do not interpret a paid consumer subscription as a universal default exclusion from training. Before supplying files, check the account's settings and applicable terms, and treat browser-agent access as a separate choice about what the product can reach. Project context is not an assurance that every historical thread is in each answer. The current plan documentation also warns of retirement of the organization file repository; this proposal does not recommend using it. Keep sensitive material out of the public-claims exercise unless its processing is authorized for the actual product surface and account.
