Manus · task-executing assistant

Manus

Official documentation

Manus suits a task whose answer needs to become a deliverable: a source-linked briefing, slides or a small website. Agent mode plans and performs multi-step work, while Chat mode offers a lighter conversation. The execution environment matters as much as the requested output. A temporary cloud sandbox provides files, tools and browser access; Cloud Computer is a separate persistent Ubuntu environment. Desktop/My Computer works on the user's machine, and Browser Operator supplies another browser route. Choose the surface according to the material and actions the task needs. A finished artifact still needs review against its sources, and a sandbox result should not be mistaken for persistent hosting. Agent work consumes credits, with access differing by plan.

When it fits

Useful for

  • Turning public-source research into a briefing or other reviewable artifact
  • Delegating a bounded task that needs several research and production steps

Limits to consider

  • A fixed recurring app workflow that needs explicit trigger and action logic
  • Treating a completed temporary sandbox task as persistent production hosting

Capabilities and platforms

  • Agent mode plans and executes multi-step tasks using tools and files
  • A temporary cloud sandbox supports browser-based research and artifact work
  • Separate Cloud Computer, local Desktop and Browser Operator surfaces support different execution locations

Where it runs

  • Web
  • Mobile
  • Desktop
  • Browser extension: Browser Operator

Access and setup

An eligible Manus account and sufficient plan credits; local, persistent-computer and browser routes have their own availability and access requirements.

Current access and pricing
  1. Open Manus and choose Agent mode for an executed deliverable or Chat for a conversation.
  2. Select the execution surface before supplying material; a temporary sandbox and Cloud Computer have different persistence.
  3. Give a bounded objective, permitted sources and output format, and specify which external actions remain outside the task.

Proposed exercise · not hands-on tested

Compare three public tools

Input

Three official product URLs and the decision the briefing must inform.

  1. Ask for a comparison table citing the official pages and separating documented capabilities from unanswered questions.
  2. Have Manus turn the findings into a short briefing without creating accounts, buying services or sending messages.
  3. Open the decisive citations and revise claims that outrun their source or omit a material limitation.

Artifact to inspect

A source-linked comparison and unresolved-question list.

What to verify

Check every decisive claim, confirm the selected execution surface and inspect the artifact independently of the completion message.

Data handling and permissions

Material supplied to a cloud task is processed in that environment; browser and local-machine routes expand what the task can reach. Manus Team/Enterprise documentation restricts model providers from training on customer data, but that statement should not be extended to every consumer account or every retention practice. Before adding internal files, check the chosen plan's trust terms, connections and storage behavior. Persistence also changes where work remains after a task ends: a temporary sandbox and Cloud Computer are distinct services. This profile does not establish that either configuration meets an organization's data policy. Start the proposed comparison with public material and inspect its outputs before sharing.
