Suno

Official documentation

Suno creates songs or instrumental sketches from a description, with web and mobile access. In Simple Mode, a prompt describes the desired sound and an Instrumental toggle excludes requested vocals. This makes it a candidate for exploring mood, instrumentation and song structure before choosing a track for a larger project. The platform name is separate from model versions: the help center has a v5 category, but that does not establish v5 as the default for every account. Editing features and generation budgets depend on the chosen model and plan. Listen to the entire candidate rather than judge its opening alone. When predictable cleared reuse is the main requirement, a licensed catalog may be a better starting point than generated music.

When it fits

Useful for

  • Exploring original instrumental moods and song sketches
  • Comparing instrumentation or structure against a synthetic creative brief

Limits to consider

  • Automatically licensing old free-era songs by subscribing later
  • Commercial use of collaborative Remixes covered by the noncommercial remix restriction

Capabilities and platforms

  • Simple Mode generates music from a genre, mood and instrumentation description.
  • The Instrumental option requests a track without vocals.
  • Approved-channel downloads export generated tracks, with download allocations and use conditions set by the account tier.

Where it runs

  • Web browser
  • iOS app
  • Android app

Access and setup

Account with plan-dependent generation and permitted-download allocations. Free/Basic output is personal/noncommercial; a paid tier does not remove the specified Remix restriction.

Current access and pricing
  1. Sign in at suno.com/create and choose Simple Mode for a first sketch.
  2. Decide whether the output needs vocals; use Instrumental for the sample and review model/plan access and remaining generation allowance.
  3. Before any external use, inspect the permitted-download allocation and applicable commercial conditions; retain creation and download records.

Proposed exercise · not hands-on tested

An instrumental concept for a fictional training opener

Input

A synthetic brief requesting a calm instrumental with muted percussion and soft keyboard tones for a fictional training-video opener; no uploaded song or cloned voice.

  1. In Simple Mode, describe the mood and instrumentation and enable Instrumental; inspect the account’s allowance before generating.
  2. Audition each full candidate and change one element, such as percussion intensity, for a focused second comparison.
  3. Keep the selected sketch’s model, plan and creation record; use an approved download only if its specific rights and intended destination are confirmed.

Artifact to inspect

A proposed instrumental sketch awaiting musical and rights review; no song was generated, downloaded or distributed here.

What to verify

Listen for unwanted vocals, clipping, abrupt transitions and usable structure. Check the specific track’s plan, permitted download and destination rules rather than infer permission from a subscription badge.

Data handling and permissions

Suno’s terms give it broad content-use rights for service/model improvement; avoid confidential or unlicensed recordings and another person’s voice. Free/Basic outputs are personal/noncommercial. Commercial exploitation requires a permitted download through an approved channel, with tier-dependent allocations; collaborative Remixes described in the terms remain noncommercial even on paid tiers. The September 3 paid-rights help refers to songs downloaded while subscribed, while ownership help refers to songs created while subscribed. Another help page denies automatic retroactive licensing of free-era songs. Preserve that discrepancy and confirm the specific track with Suno when needed. Commercial permission does not guarantee copyright, exclusivity or a destination platform’s acceptance.

ElevenLabs
Compare its music-specific offering under its own terms; use speech tools if the deliverable is narration.
Adobe Firefly
Compare Firefly audio tools for accompanying sound effects rather than a complete song, under their selected-model terms.

Sources and scope

Documentation-based; not hands-on tested. Features and policies are vendor statements checked against primary documentation on October 2, 2026. Fit, alternatives and the synthetic workflow are editorial proposals, not measured outcomes, quality rankings or legal clearance. Model, plan, regional and account entitlements may differ.
