Adobe Firefly

Official documentation

Firefly is both Adobe’s generative model family and an application that also offers partner models. An asset made in the application therefore needs a model record before Adobe-model training claims can be attached to it. The documented tool set includes image generation, local image edits, video generation and Boards for visual exploration. A practical starting point is an owned reference and a specific deliverable: change a background, explore a visual direction or generate a short supporting shot. Compare a small set at the final crop and resolution, then refine the selected asset. Firefly is a candidate when those stages need to fit an Adobe-centered production workflow. Credits, partner-model access and commercial conditions vary with the chosen feature and account.

When it fits

Useful for

  • Generating and refining visual assets in an Adobe-centered workflow
  • Comparing an owned reference across image treatments or short video ideas

Limits to consider

  • Treating every partner model as an Adobe-trained Firefly model
  • Assuming the phrase commercially safe guarantees rights clearance

Capabilities and platforms

  • Text prompts and references guide generated images and variations.
  • Generative fill/remove and expansion target changes within or around an existing image.
  • Video generation includes explicit selection between Adobe and supported partner models.

Where it runs

  • Web browser
  • Mobile application

Access and setup

Adobe account; generative credits and available models/features depend on the account and plan.

Current access and pricing
  1. Sign in with an Adobe account at firefly.adobe.com or use the official mobile access path.
  2. Choose the media task and explicitly identify the Adobe or partner model selected.
  3. Check plan entitlement, credits, beta labeling and the available reference/aspect-ratio settings before the first generation.

Proposed exercise · not hands-on tested

A background variation for a synthetic workshop announcement

Input

An owned photograph of an unbranded notebook and a synthetic brief requesting a muted workshop background with room for a separately typeset headline.

  1. Select an image editing feature/model and upload the owned reference; define the landscape crop and inspect the credit requirement.
  2. Use the supported editing controls to change the background while retaining the notebook, then compare a small set at the intended display size.
  3. Refine a selected asset and export it with the model identity and available provenance information retained; add exact headline text in the design editor.

Artifact to inspect

A proposed background asset for a workshop graphic, not a source-verified scene or completed campaign.

What to verify

Compare the notebook with the reference, inspect boundaries and invented marks, and check headline space and crop survival. Recheck the selected feature’s commercial/beta conditions before external use.

Data handling and permissions

Adobe says its Firefly models use licensed and public-domain training material and that Creative Cloud subscribers’ personal content is not used to train those models. Do not extend those statements to every partner model in the Firefly application. Adobe’s FAQ permits commercial use of non-beta outputs and generally beta outputs unless the feature says otherwise; this does not guarantee third-party clearance. Community submission has separate public/marketing consequences. Enterprise Creative Production has its own provider-processing and no-training commitments, including sharing needed prompts/files with selected providers. Review that feature and account agreement before uploading confidential assets, and retain the actual model identity with the output.
