Find the right place for the work
An SRE team may need help changing a client, preparing a shift handoff or keeping a maintenance task moving. OpenAI's products put those jobs in different working environments. Codex can inspect a repository and run development tools. ChatGPT Space gives people an editable record to maintain together. The OpenAI API lets an application send its own requests to a model. Choosing a starting guide is easier when the intended result is clear: a patch, a shared account of an incident, or a repeatable application workflow.
Work through a code change
Start with the Codex guide when you have a local project and want to follow a proposed fix from source code to regression test. The guide covers the terminal interface. Its synthetic ticket client demonstrates a deceptively small bug: a service can create a ticket, lose its response and create another ticket when the caller retries. The exercise checks the number of writes as well as the returned error, so a passing test has a specific meaning.
The HTTP errors and ambiguous writes walkthrough extends that exercise into a reviewed patch for two failure paths. If preparing the toolchain is the obstacle, read how Codex Cloud environments are reused. Publishing prepared files and tools gives new tasks a common starting point; an existing task keeps its own working state. That distinction matters when yesterday's task still has yesterday's test runner. See the official cloud-environment documentation.
Keep an incident account useful across shifts
The ChatGPT Space handoff guide follows a synthetic order-service investigation as people add findings and revise the shared page. It shows how to preserve a completed rollback, a narrowly scoped dependency check and an investigation that remains open. Space supports collaborative pages, while linked sources retain their own permissions. A responder needs access to both the summary and its evidence. The Space administration guide explains that access distinction.
Use that guide when an editable handoff would reduce reconstruction for the next shift. Where the incident platform already maintains the current account well, a second copy adds reconciliation work. For individual analysis and drafting, the ChatGPT SRE guide is the simpler starting point.
Carry maintenance forward, or measure an API workflow
The Dots explainer examines a dependency update that continues between conversations. It follows the workspace and installed dependency through to the test evidence a reviewer needs. Read it for persistent maintenance work, alongside the cloud-environment guide when repository setup matters.
For an application that repeatedly sends the same instructions and service reference, the prompt-caching guide explains what computation can be reused and provides a local cost ledger. Fresh incident evidence still belongs in each request. Compare spending across all attempts with the handoffs reviewers accept; a cache hit alone does not tell you whether the workflow saved useful work.
