Microsoft

Microsoft's AI offerings span consumer assistance, workplace applications, coding tools and enterprise infrastructure. Microsoft AI is an organization announced in March 2024, not the company's founding identity. Copilot is a family of applications and agents rather than one foundation model: consumer Copilot, Microsoft 365 Copilot, GitHub Copilot and Copilot Studio serve different workflows. Foundry supplies AI application and model infrastructure. These products can expose models from multiple providers, so a Copilot entitlement should not be read as unrestricted access to a particular GPT model. For Microsoft 365 teams, the relevant questions concern work-data integrations and governance; developers should evaluate the actual GitHub or IDE workflow. Microsoft reported over 30 million paid Microsoft 365 Copilot seats on July 29, 2026. Purchased seats are not monthly active people or a measure of the consumer audience. Its live roadmap distinguishes availability and early-access statuses. July's forthcoming unified-experience statement is historical here, with October shipment unverified.

Who uses it, and what the numbers mean

  • Microsoft 365 knowledge-work teams evaluating assistance over work data, with tenant permissions, governance and product entitlement checked.
  • Developers using GitHub and IDE workflows, or internal-agent builders evaluating Copilot Studio rather than assuming one Copilot product covers both tasks.

These are dated vendor-reported figures. Populations and units differ; this is not a market-share ranking.

· Purchased Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses reported in the earnings transcript.
